The Seiko VK64A is a hybrid mechanical quartz or mecaquartz movement. It uses quartz technology for the main functions of the watch and a mechanical module for the operation of the chronograph. 

Unlike most quartz chronographs which have a ticking impulse, the chronograph second hand on the VK64 has a rather smooth, sweeping movement, while having a high degree of accuracy which, according to Seiko, is expected to be less than +/- 20 seconds per month at normal temperatures.
